One Piece Poster

One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 1997, with the chapters collected into 97 tankōbon volumes as of September 2020. The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his crew of pirates, named the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy explores the Grand Line in search of the world’s ultimate treasure known as “One Piece” in order to become the next Pirate King.

 

The One Piece anime directed by Konosuke Uda and produced by Toei Animation aired on Fuji TV from October 20, 1999, to June 30, 2002, before being succeeded by One Piece: Adventure of Nebulandia in 2015. To date, eleven states have released One Piece anime DVDs. The releases are referred to by collectors as “Barrels”, due to the shape of their packaging. In 2004, 4Kids Entertainment licensed the series for an English-language release in North America on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block; Funimation began licensing it for an English-language release in 2007 after 4Kids’ license expired.[17] One Piece has been a commercial success; as of 2020, it is the best-selling manga series of all time with 430 million copies sold worldwide.
